Lawrenceburg Utility System

by Bob Augustin Jr.

Rene Chandler and David Mullholand of the Lawrenceburg Utility System (LUS) were the guest speakers at the April 6 meeting of the Lawrenceburg Rotary Club.  Chandler spoke to the club of the LUS's Round-up Program which allows LUS customers to round-up their monthly utility bill to the next dollar and designate the difference be donated to the charitable organization of their choice.  LUS  totals the donations monthly and sends the fund to the charitable organizations.

Mullholand reported on LUS's $13.5 million Water Plant project that will be completed April 30.  The water plant will use UV (ultraviolet) light to disinfect the water supply instead of chlorine. The plant will be able to disinfect 1.4 million gallons of water a day.  He stated that the city's water supply from Hope Springs and Shoal Creek was of very good quality and required  minimal disinfection.  In fact, a sample of Lawrenceburg's water  was selected the "best tasting" water in a seven county region.  It will now be entered in the state-wide competition.  For more information about LUS, go to there web site at http://www.lburgus.com.
