Rotary Presents Service Above Self Awards
by Bob Augustin Jr.

The Lawrenceburg Rotary Club presented the May and June Service Above Self Awards to Doug Howe and John Pillow at its July 13 meeting. The Service Above Self is given monthly to recognize and honor an individual or group that exemplies the Rotary motto: Service Above Self."
Rotarian Randy Brewer presented the Service Above Self Award for May to Doug Howe for his dedication to youth baseball in Lawrence County. Howe has been a baseball coach on every level and is currently the President of the Lawrenceburg Babe Ruth League. He is also the coach of the Lawrenceburg Legends 16 Year Old Babe Ruth Team which recently won its third straight Tennessee State Championship. He also coached this team to State Championships as 14 & 15 Year Olds.
Next, Brewer presented the June Service Above Self Award to Rotary's long time friend and associate John Pillow for his 40 years as Lawrenceburg Little League coach. Pillow began coaching the Volts in 1967 and has won more Little League Championship than anyone can remember, except, of course John, who remembers every one of them. Looking over the members of the club, Pillow remarked that he had coached current Rotary members, their sons and grandsons.
